The first round of public engagement for the City of Chillicothe’s comprehensive plan process Choose Chillicothe started March 22nd and runs through April 11th, 2022.
Input was collected through in-person meetings and events, the first being an in-person workshop held on March 22nd, with virtual meetings taking place on March 24th and March 31st. For those who cannot attend either the workshop or online events, online activities are available that replicate in-person activities which can be completed up until April 11th on the website. This round of engagement will ultimately assist the development of the plan’s preliminary goals, objectives, and recommendations.
Engagement at the workshop and accompanying online materials includes two main exercises: an ‘Ideas for the Future’ expository activity and an interactive mapping exercise. The first activity encouraged participants to think big about Chillicothe and answer the prompt: “When you think about 15 or 20 years down the line, what are the greatest opportunities for the City of Chillicothe?”
The mapping exercise asked participants to identify specific locations and places that are assets to Chillicothe and opportunities for the future on a digital map and to explain why these areas were selected. An opportunity area could be a place that should be protected or that should be improved or enhanced, and an asset could be a place that is already serving the community and the surrounding jurisdiction well. Over 75 people attended the in-person workshop and voiced their opinions about the future of the City.
For those unable to attend, similar activities are available on the project website. You can find the ‘Ideas for the Future’ and Mapping activities here on the website.
